Baofeng UV-5R

So yes, I touched a Baofeng. TBH, I don’t get the hate on these devices. I had never seen one before today, but my brother wanted the RCWA repeater saved on it for the hamfest this weekend.

I’ve definitely seen HT menu systems that were significantly worse than this device… and it’s got dual VFO. None of my other HTs have that.

Quick version so I can repeat this someday…

  • Set radio on VFO A in frequency mode (not channel mode)
  • Enter the frequency of the repeater
  • Press menu. type 25 – This will take you to SFT-D (shift)
    • Press menu again to enter edit mode for this setting.
    • Use up/down arrows to set to plus of minus shift
    • Press menu again to save the setting.
  • Now either use the up arrow or type 26 for the offset.
    • Again, use menu to enter edit mode
    • Enter the offset with the keypad
    • Press menu again to save the setting.
(Note the menu > adjust setting > menu workflow)
  • Continue through the settings as needed for
    • 13 T-CTCS
    • 27 – MEM-CH
  • Press Exit

At this point, switch to channel mode and you should be able to find your memory channel.

Easy peasy, right?
