I live in an HOA that has a no outdoor antennas rule, so I planned this installation in the attic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Unboxing and Assembly<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">I&#8217;m using this with the Yaesu FTM-6000R I got for Christmas from my XYL, who is certainly my better half \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-rounded\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"601\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/ki5wwp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/arrow_osj146_440.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-57\" style=\"width:627px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ki5wwp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/arrow_osj146_440.png 601w, https:\/\/ki5wwp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/arrow_osj146_440-225x300.png 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 601px) 100vw, 601px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The antenna was very well packaged, and well protected with heavy reinforcements in the box to prevent bending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon unpacking, I found all the pieces. The manufacturing was clean, no burrs or other concerns. The tips have nice red protectors on them. The threads all fit nicely.  The assembly instructions were clear and easy to follow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once I test fit everything to my satisfaction, I removed and added electrical grease to prevent electrolysis and aid disassembly, should I ever take it apart. As this is considered a permanent fixture at the QTH, that is unlikely&#8230; none the less, better safe than sorry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mounting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once assembled, I installed at its permanent position in the attic, in one of the southern facing dormer windows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"531\" class=\"wp-image-58\" style=\"width: 800px;\" src=\"https:\/\/ki5wwp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/arrow_osj146_440_attic.png\" alt=\"attic installation\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ki5wwp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/arrow_osj146_440_attic.png 1206w, https:\/\/ki5wwp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/arrow_osj146_440_attic-300x199.png 300w, https:\/\/ki5wwp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/arrow_osj146_440_attic-1024x679.png 1024w, https:\/\/ki5wwp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/arrow_osj146_440_attic-768x509.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mast is an extra 1\u00bc&#8221; dowel rod I had from a curtain project. I set it in a 5 gallon Atwoods bucket with about 20 pounds of redi-mix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Testing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once hooked up, I ran antenna analyzer from feed point to the antenna. The antenna lives up to the pretuned boast well. I have sub-optimal feedline&#8230; way too long for the current installation, and low quality Amazon stuff I bought back in the early days. For less than $100 delivered, really hard to beat this deal.
